Research
Being part of the Darbeau Research Group for two years, my interests lie mainly in physical organic chemistry, more specifically, deamination chemistry. We are currently pioneering a new type of deamination chemistry known as "hyperdeamination".
Hyperdeamination is just like traditional deamination, except multiple gas molecules are produced when a certain molecule is nitrosated. These multiple gas molecules, which separate the benzyl cation from the anion, produce exceedingly reactive carbocations, thus producing very high yields of solvent derived products. I also have my hands in some synthetic organic chemistry. Dr. Darbeau, Luis Siso, and myself have established synthetic methods for synthesizing and isolating the molecules necessary for hyperdeamination among other things.
