The department is seeking an undergraduate chemistry student to work in the labs for the spring semester 10 hours per week. Or we could have two students who could work 5 hours per week.
Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry
TENURE TRACK ORGANIC CHEMIST:
McNeese State University invites application for a position of Assistant Professor (Ph. D. in organic chemistry [emphasis in bio-, environmental, or synthetic organic chemistry]) for Summer/Fall 2003. Duties include teaching introductory and advanced organic lecture/lab courses, and initiation of a research program with B. S./M. S. students. McNeese State University is located in southwest Louisiana and has a student body of approximately 8,000 students. This semester we have 36 chemistry majors and 19 graduate students. Our twelve faculty members are dedicated teachers who are actively involved in teaching, research, grant-writing and other scholarly activities. We have obtained over ½ million dollars of instrumentation during the past six years funded through grants. Available instrumentation includes a state-of-the-art 300 MHz JEOL NMR, a Midac FTIR, a Hewlett-Packard GC-MS, a Varian HPLC, a Leeman ICP, two Perkin-Elmer graphite furnace/flame AA spectrophotometers, and a Varian UV-VIS Spectrophotometer.
Our undergraduate chemistry majors and graduate students are involved in research; high school students work with professors during the summer through SEED projects sponsored by ACS and area donors. All chemistry faculty members and many of our students participate in CHEM EXPO, an event which is a collaboration between local industry, our chemistry department and McNeese State University each fall, during which over 2,500 area 6th grade students participate in hands-on activities in for National Chemistry Week. We are energetic and diverse in our interests as you can see from our web pages. Our department hosts parties for the students and faculty each semester, and we have socials throughout the year.
