FTIR A MIDAC M1200 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer is capable of providing infrared spectra to a resolution of one reciprocal centimeter. FTIR is useful in identifying functional groups in compounds and for routine analysis since each compound has its own characteristic "finterprint". A second MIDAC M1200 is also housed in the Chemistry Department. These instruments are used for both lab classes and research. |
The 166 MHz Gateway 2000 computer shown contains interface cards for both the MIDAC 1200 and the Hewlett Packard 6890 Gas Chromatograph shown on the next page. Both the FTIR and the GC are controlled by this computer. by Dr. Mark S. Delaney
